If You're Going To Beat It... Use The Sceach!

Sceach (Skee-Yok) is the Gaelic word for Hawthorne. It is also a term used by Mothers across Ireland, particularly Gaelic speaking ones, to describe a branch of a tree used to beat the living daylights out of thier children.

Many's the child has been sent outside to pick a sceach to be used on themselves. If it wasn't an appropriate sceach the child would be sent out again.... ah sweet, sweet memories!

Sceach bodhrán beaters are bamboo and birch rod type beaters (tippers). Birch is used for the fatter rods and as the center piece for heavier sceach's. There are four main models
  • 9" Skinny Sceach
  • 7" Skinny Sceach
  • 9" Fatty Sceach
  • 7" Fatty Sceach
My favourites are the "9 Fatty Sceach" and the "7 Fatty Sceach".
